turquoise & teal dots: inspired by malcolm gladwell's 'blink'

Hi guys! Today I bring you a simple design inspired by the cover of one of my favourite books, Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking, by Malcolm Gladwell. I'm not usually one for non-fiction, but this is definitely worth a read. The author explains how our ability to make snap judgements is a lot more effective than cautious decisions, and encourages you to trust your instincts rather than over-thinking things. It basically gets you thinking about thinking... If that makes sense?! Anyway, I've always loved the cover art (I should probably mention it's by 'Kai & Sunny'), so I decided to recreate it via my nails.

Nail lacquer competition prize: a very girly mani!

Hi everyone! If you follow me on FacebookInstagram or Twitter you may know that I recently won Nail Lacquer's 'Farewell To Summer' nail art competition. I submitted my ice lolly nails (you can find the tutorial here), and I was so excited when I found out I'd got the most votes. If you voted for me, thank you very very very much! Anyway, the prize was my choice of indie nail polish, and after swooning over the majority of the stock in Nail Lacquer's Etsy shop, I finally settled for 'Pink Star'.

Squirrels & Acorns: Autumn with the polish party

Hi everyone! Today I bring you my first manicure of the Polish Party collaboration. A group of us got chatting on Twitter and decided to start up our own monthly nail art challenge, and the first theme is 'Autumn'. I wanted to do something a little bit different, so I settled on a mix-and-match red squirrel and acorn design, which I'm still trying to decide if I like or not. I also got to use some of my newest Sinful Colors purchases in this manicure - this brand never ceases to amaze me! Each polish is only £1.99, and although you tend to need around 3 coats for opacity, the quality is definitely fantastic for the price. Plus there's a huuuuuge range of colours, so if you happen to pass a bigger Boots store in the future, make sure you pop in and check out the Sinful Colors stand!

london fashion week day 4: christopher kane

Hi everyone! Today's post is a little bit late... Ooops. Anyway, it's inspired by my favourite LFW designer of Monday, Christopher Kane. I was desperate to find some really bright prints to recreate, since my previous manicures have all been quite muted. While this design still involves pastel shades, the combination of lilac, pale green, nude and metallics makes it a little more eye-catching, and I'm pleased with the result.

london fashion week day 3: mulberry

Hi guys! Today I bring you a design inspired by one of the most popular fashion houses of today's LFW schedule: Mulberry. Mulberry has created one of the biggest buzzes online thanks to their cute and clever invitations - rather than sending out traditional invites, they collaborated with Wedgewood and delivered tiny tea cups to the lucky individuals on their guest list. I had a snoop around online and came across a gorgeous image of Mulberry cups and saucers, and knew immediately that I had to recreate the colours and patterns on my nails!

london fashion week day 2: antipodium

Happy Saturday everyone! For my second London Fashion Week post I've taken inspiration from Antipodium's SS14 collection. I popped back over to Vogue for the latest images, and was immediately drawn to the pretty pleats and cute prints of these designs. I'm one of those people who loves coordination, and Antipodium's matchy-matchy combinations really appealed to me.

london fashion week day 1: bora aksu

Hi :) I'm sure you're all aware that today saw the launch of London Fashion Week 2013. I know a lot of bloggers have done it before, so I've decided to dedicate my next few posts to the huge fashion event. Today, I've taken inspiration from Bora Aksu's collection, which I fell in love with as soon as it appeared in Vogue's coverage. Aksu made a massive statement this morning with his combinations of bright colours and intricate textiles, all of which are reminiscent of his native Turkey.

a few bits & bobs: 6 month overview & the liebster award (kind of)

Hi everyone :) Today I haven't got a new design to share with you, but I've decided to do an overview of some significant moments of the past six months. While doing this, I'm going to attempt an alternative Liebster Award post - I can't quite believe I've been nominated by six different bloggers over this last week?! Crazy times! Anyway, you're probably already aware, but the Liebster Award is a bloggy-thing that involves accepting a nomination, answering the questions that were asked, inventing your own questions, and then nominating some of your favourite bloggers with under 200 followers. It's kind of like a chain letter, and is really good to promote some of the lovely blogs you follow.

6 Month Celebration: Rainbow Birdies

Hi everyone! I can't quite believe that today marks Little Tip Off's six month anniversary. In some ways I feel like I've been painting my nails and blogging about it FOREVER, but at the same time it has totally whizzed past! I just want to say a massive thank you to all of my followers on all of the platforms I use - it really does brighten up my day every time I get a notification that someone has commented on a post, retweeted a picture or 'liked' a design on Instagram. I honestly don't think I'd still be blogging if I hadn't received such a positive response :) The nail art community really is full of the best girls (and boys!) out there, and everyone is so friendly and encouraging. If you're still contemplating starting up a nail art blog, I have one piece of advice... DO IT!!!

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: Dotty Gradients & Sparkles

Hi guys and gals! So I know the title of this post refers to Wednesday, and I'm well aware that it's only Monday, but it seemed like the perfect name for this manicure (plus I didn't want to wait two days to post!) Who doesn't love a good old Mean Girls reference, eh? This design was ridiculously easy to achieve, and I think it looks really effective. I haven't involved photos of the step-by-steps because it's pretty self explanatory...

Skulls & Sparkles: Inspired by Rankin's Death Masks

Hi guys! Today I've created a manicure inspired by the Rankin photography exhibition that's on at Liverpool's Walker Gallery at the moment. The show is called 'Alive: In The Face of Death', and features over 70 images that identify, explore and challenge our perceptions of death. Rankin photographed lots of people who have been touched by death, whether they miraculously survived, live with a terminal illness, or work within the death industry. The exhibition was really moving along with aesthetically impressive, and it was really sad to discover that some of his subjects passed away as recently as the launch of the event. It takes quite a lot to upset me (I only really cry if I stub my toe or dye one of my favourite tops in the washing machine), but this show is a real tearjerker. Nevertheless, it's really beautiful and well worth a visit, so if you're in and around the area before September 14th, get down to the Walker Art Gallery!
